Last month hubby presented me with this beautiful rose gold Micheal Kors watch on our fourth wedding anniversary but there was only one problem it didn’t quite fit right. I have wrist size of a 16 year old! I was eager to start wearing it right away and didn’t want to have to take it somewhere, so I convinced my husband to give removing the links to resize the watch band a go. We already own a watch repair kit so it made sense to atleast try…
As it turned out this was one of those things that you can teach yourself, when you need to know. Engineer in me is happy! Here is how we did it:
After a quick search online for “how to remove watch links”, we got the basics and decided to crack on.
First, set your watch onto something soft, I used an old bed sheet – so I don’t damage it. Look carefully inside of the watch band and you will see some arrows. These arrows indicate the direction in which pins needs to be pushed to be removed. Position the watch on the tool as shown and twist the tool (in blue – not sure what this is called) and pin will come out from other end.
Use pliers to remove the pin and put it aside. Remember which way the pin is as you would need to put it back in after removing the links.
Lay the watch flat and remove the links. Don’t remove the links closest to the closure latch! You’ll need those.
Repeat this process on other side if you need to continue removing links to make it fit – keep trying it on until it fits you. We removed two links from both sides…
Then you just need to put it back together. Line up the pin holes and slide the pin back in. Align it as shown below – you may need to knock it in a little with tap hammer(using softer side).
Save your removed links in case you ever need to replace them.
Ta da! Now go out wearing you new watch ;).
Hope this tutorial helps save you a few bucks in the future if you ever need a watch resized.
