6 Ways to Keep Your Bedroom Clean and Tidy

If you suffer from insomnia or feel your sleep could be improved, you’ve probably come across the term ‘
sleep hygiene’.

A big part of sleep hygiene advice is to keep your bedroom clean and tidy. But it’s not only those of us who don’t sleep well who can benefit from a clean and tidy bedroom - it’s healthier in general and your sleep will improve, whether you think it needs to be improved or not.

With that in mind, here are 6 ways to keep your bedroom clean and tidy.

Make the bed

Even if you do nothing else to your bedroom, making your bed when you get up in the morning will make your bedroom look a whole lot tidier than if you left your bed unmade and your sheets rumpled.

While I’m on the subject of your bed, although it’s a tedious job, don’t forget to change your bed linen regularly. And when I say ‘regularly’, I mean weekly, not yearly. We all know how fabulous it feels to slip into clean sheets at night, so it’s worth making the effort.

It’s also worth investing in good quality, crisp white sheets, duvet covers and pillow cases, as these will give your bedroom a lift and make it feel more clean and fresh.

For an even better night's rest, consider understanding what is deep sleep and how it impacts your health. Investing in quality bed from Simba can be a game-changer in achieving that luxurious, well-rested feeling every day.

I’m willing to bet that, when you viewed your home after seeing it in a
Chelmsford estate agents, the bed was not only made but it had crisp clean sheets on it. You bought that lifestyle, now live it.

Clean the windows

Your bedroom is never going to feel as clean as it could if you’ve got dirty windows. You might not realise how dirty they are - after all, you can probably still see out of them, right? But give your windows a clean and notice how much light they now let in. You’ll be amazed.

Clean the mirrors

If you feel the same way about your mirrors as you do your windows, i.e. they can’t be that dirty because you can still see in them, they probably need a clean. In fact, I know they need a clean. Don’t ask me how I know, I just do.

Cleaning the mirrors in your bedroom will only take a few seconds, so there really is no excuse. Clean mirrors will not only allow you to see yourself better but they’ll bounce light around, making your bedroom feel much lighter and brighter.

Do the dusting

I’m sure you don’t let your bedroom get too dusty but do you remember to not only dust down the surfaces but also the blinds and the lampshades?

Yes, dusting venetian blinds is a pain in the neck and something we’d rather not do but it needs to be done unless you want to breathe in dust all night.

It’s the same with lampshades. Because they’re above our heads, we forget about them but have a look and see how much dust is collected on your ceiling light. Get a ladder if you need to but do it. Dusty, huh?

Do the vacuuming

The same as the dusting, I’m sure you get the hoover out occasionally but do you vacuum under the bed? If not, you might find the entire cast of Watership Down under your bed (that’s a reference to dust bunnies, if you didn’t get it).

If your bed is low down, you might have to move it to get to the floor. However, if you have a high bed with plenty of space underneath, you’ve got no excuse. Go get those bunnies!

A place for everything

There’s no point having dust-free surfaces, sparkling clean windows and mirrors and a bed as smooth as unwalked-on-sand if you’re using your floor as a floordrobe (which isn’t a thing, by the way).

Put your clothes away (yes, even the pyjamas you’ll be wearing later), clear the clutter from shelves and dressers and your bedroom will be fit to sleep in.

Which is what it’s there for, after all.
