For the past few years, I’ve chosen a word for the year to guide me through the year.
This year, I’ve chosen the word SPACE.
I recently moved to a new city and while I was packing my belonging this word came to mind over and over toward the end of last year, so I started taking it seriously. I just have too much stuff and it’s a pain to pack it, considering I have moved 6 times in last 8 years. I feel like I am minimalist at heart, yes, I am one of those people who enjoyed Marie Kondo’s book. I like clean, modern, spacious rooms with essential things. This suits me as I quite like to use the same things again and again, so having all this stuff was not serving me.
Once I accepted space, I started looking up definitions—and immediately got excited. This word means a lot of different things, which quite honestly I could do with bringing into my life right now. I instantly drew a mind map and decided to focus on few themes to start with. So here’s how I’ll be focusing on the word space internally, in the everyday, and in my work – physical space, space in my heart for family and friends, space i.e. time for myself, space for good conversations, space to relax, space for spontaneity, space to be creative. I am sure I will be adding to these throughout the year.
I tend to over-complicate things, and I simply don’t have the time or energy for that any longer. I am feeling lighter already as I have started acting on these themes (see HERE), and I am so excited for what’s to come as I keep focusing on the feelings I want.
Have you chosen a word or other guiding theme for the year? If so, I would love to hear what it is! I am always fascinated by what others choose and what it means to them. I’d also love to hear how it’s already showing up in your life as well as how you plan to keep it in mind as you move through the year.
If you haven’t chosen a word, or you are new to the idea, here are some resources to check out!
