Reading is a hobby that is not only enjoyable, but it is also a way to learn and escape from reality. As someone who has read 45 books this year alone, I am often asked how I manage to read so much. In this blog post, I will share some of my best reading tips that have helped me read more than ever before.

Use the Libby App
The Libby app is a free app that connects to your library card and allows you to borrow books and audiobooks. It is an excellent way to access a wide range of books without spending any money. I use this app constantly - getting on waitlists, downloading books to my Kindle, and just browsing. It has made reading so easy and accessible for me.
Invest in a Kindle
I used to be a "real book" girl and resisted the idea of getting a Kindle. However, I was gifted one in 2016, and it has been a game-changer. A Kindle is a lightweight way to carry multiple books and has accompanied me to many countries. It allows me to always have something to read and makes traveling much more comfortable.
Replace your phone with your Kindle
One of my biggest tips for reading more is to reach for your Kindle or book instead of your phone. Whenever I find myself waiting in line or hanging out, I grab my Kindle instead of my phone. This has allowed me to squeeze in five extra reading hours a week, and my screen time has decreased significantly.

Listen to Audiobooks
I have significantly reduced the number of podcasts I subscribe to and started listening to audiobooks while walking, driving, or cleaning. The average audiobook is around eight hours, and I listen on 1.5x speed, which means I can easily listen to an extra book a week. I get all my audiobooks from Libby for free, so I don't need to spend money on a pricey subscription like Audible.
Read before bed
An easy way to add more reading time to your day is to get in bed 30 minutes earlier and read. You will be surprised at how much you can read in just 30 minutes. If you do this every day, you can add 3.5 extra reading hours a week.

Keep a reading journal
Keeping track of the books you have read is a great way to stay motivated and accountable. I keep a notebook where I jot down notes about the books I have read or listened to. Writing the notes down helps me remember more about the books and retain the information longer. On my Kindle, I am connected to Goodreads, which automatically imports my highlights to my account there.
How much does reading this much cost?
I have only bought three books this year, spending a total of $64 at local bookstores. Although I could read for free using the Libby app, I love supporting local bookstores and buying books that I know I will want to read again or pass along to others.
In conclusion, reading is a great hobby that can enrich your life in many ways. By using these tips, you can find ways to add more reading time to your day and enjoy all the benefits that come with reading more books.
